The purpose of this paper is to review the Hawaii study-abroad program offered by Tokai University Fukuoka Junior College. The paper also demonstrates the worth of this long-standing program from an educational viewpoint. This program has a history of over 20 years, starting in 1995 when students and a few faculty members stayed in Hawaii for more than four weeks. In 1998 the period of the program was shorten and participants were limited to the freshmen who entered the Fukuoka Junior College. Since them, the program has taken several steps according to various purposes, such as outlining new features in the program, improving students’ English skills, deepening cross-cultural understanding, and so on. Finally, the paper makes a report on the Hawaii study-abroad program administered in 2016 in the new area, Kapolei, and discusses the future of the program.
